Marhaban
Design Intention
Baraan is a Javanase tradition in Kampung Sungai Haji where visitors visit each other from one end to the other, house by house during Hari Raya. They welcome, interact and embrace each other as they have no fence or boundary around their dwellings, allowing each other to move through their homes. They serve each other with food and authentic cultural performances. The interaction between the community, food, house and site results in the uniqueness of Kampung Sungai Haji which embodies an everwelcoming presence. Marhaban which means ‘welcome’ in Arabic is a visitor centre with a series of interactive features in response to the the function of spaces which allows locals and visitors to mingle and interact with each other.
Marhaban- The Interactive Visitor Centre
Design Process
I wanted to integrate the essence of everwelcoming Baraan as a cultural tradition that embrace everyone including outsiders into their cuture and celebrations. The exchange of cultural informations between insider and outsider through the form of food, performances and history were carry out as programs and spaces in the visitor center. The form of Marhaban is developed through the hand gesture of Sungkeman where villagers greet and show respect to the elders during Baraan.

REFLECTION
I have have deepened my understandings on the relationship between genius loci and poetic architecture. By incorporating the genius loci into spatial design, I wanted to create a interactive visitor center that would maximize users' interaction and engage with Kampung Sungai Haji Dorani while considering the site context in designing the visitor center to ensure whether if it adapts to the surrounding context instead of showing dominance over nature. I value aunthenticity by blending in existing landscape into my design.
Thinking & Problem Solving Skills
I was able to think critically and creatively on how to integrate my precedent studies into my final design. I can define and analyze my problems by coming up with a solution.

Lifelong Learning
I could practice learning individually throughout this assignment since I was studying online. I deepened my understandings on sensorial experience in relation to visitor centre.
DIGITAL LITERACY
I use ICT effectively to attend tutorial classes, conduct researches and preparing for my online verbal presentation. Since it is online class, all my final outcomes will be submitted via photos and scanned documents resulting effective use of digital platforms.
