This module consist of 8 credit hours and is led by instructors Ar Nik Syazwan , Ar Nurul Alia Ahamad ,Ar Alina Choong , Ar Bryan Chee Kok Seng , Ar Indrani Vanniasingam and Ar Patmaselvi Paramarajah .

Through this module I learnt about how important it is to integrate principles, methods of analysis, abstraction and synthesis in design thinking so that the design will be in response to user and context. This module allow me to explore the relationship between architecture, human and nature in order to translate conceptualization into form and space, creating structures that meet the needs of context and user requirements.

01

Project 1: Diagramming Architectural Principles

In project 1, we worked as a group of 5 to identify assigned architects and their work. By using diagramming technique, we analyze how the design of the existing building response to the climate, circulation and how space is planned. We also explore on how materiality translates the architects design intentions from their biography and design philosophy.

Project 2: Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality

In our second studio project, our main task is to generate and craft Introspective Architectural Folly that has spatial experience, with a maximum volume of 125 m^3 in a group of 3. We are required to utilize materiality in enhancing the spatial experience of the folly relating to the introspection we all share during this pandemic.

Project 3: Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User Tropical Solitary Haven

Our site is the Wawasan Recreational Park located in Puchong and we are required to design a tropical solitary haven for two. We will first analyze the site context in terms of circulation, natural and manmade features, climate etc in order to design a solitary haven in response to the site context. The materials limitation will be 70% steel or timber with 30% wet materials allowed. We will consider user requirements in terms of their physical and mental health as well.
