RUPTURE
Design Intention
During the pandemic, I have been staying alone in my hostel room and there is only one window opening in my room so I felt suffocated at the same time secured since I am staying in my comfort zone while isolated from reality. So my design intention is to build a ruptured isolation space at the same time keeping an enclosing area as my comfort zone The design principle of this tectonic includes further development on Project 1 design principle-Enclosure,
Tectonic Façade
Design Process
The time period for Project 2 is 4 weeks, I am required to design a 5m³ tectonic structure considering anthropometry, ergonomics, joinery and material.
1st week, I carried out research on materials and joinery. I have explored different joinery for timber such as box joint, butt joint, tenon and mortise etc. I have gained an understanding on joints other joints that does not need the use of steel brackets which are rather conventional. Then I decided on my main material which is plywood and steel as a supporting material.
2nd week, I came out with some initial ideals on how to create negative space and positive space while showcasing my design concepts rupture and enclosure. I created a few test models and decided to use the way Kirigami art subtract the planes to create space and depth.
3rd week, I had a research on anthropometry and settled down on several stretching poses as my banal action is stretching. By implementing ergonomics, I designed my model with providing some structures to help out the user to complete the banal action while reserving enough space for the user so that they feel comfortable while staying in the tectonic. I completed my final model in this week.
4th week, after completing my final model, I started working on my orthographic drawings with dimensions clearly stated. The orthographic drawings included plan view, 2 elevations, 1 section and an exploded axonometric drawing, Besides that, 2 A6 tattoo stamps are required to depict my design principles too.
